Easy Twix Candy Bar Recipe
You will be surprised at how simple it is to make this homemade Twix bars recipe, plus it’s I think it’s fun to make. It’s also more budget friendly to make a whole batch to keep on hand instead of buying store-bought. I love making a bunch of these to place in bowls for any guests or kiddos that might be around.
Another one of our favorite candy bars to make at home is Homemade Snickers!
Ingredients Needed
Here are the main ingredients you will need to make these Twix Candy Bars.
- Sugar – You will need granulated sugar for the shortbread and light brown sugar for the caramel. The corn syrup and sweetened condensed milk will act as a sweetener for the caramel as well.
- Flour & Butter – All-purpose flour and softened butter for the shortbread cookie crust.
- Chocolate Almond Bark – Combine this with the oil (I like to use coconut oil) to make it smooth and ready for dipping.
How To Make Homemade Twix Bars
Set the oven to 350 degrees and use parchment paper to line a 9×13 pan.
Shortbread Cookie Layer – Add the flour and sugar into a medium-sized bowl and combine. Slice the butter into chunks and spread inside the bowl and mash into the flour mixture using a fork until crumbly. Press the prepared shortbread dough into the pan and place in the oven for approximately 20 minutes.
- Caramel Layer – Add the butter into a medium saucepan and melt. Pour in the brown sugar, corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk and combine again. Allow the mixture to come to a boil and cook for about 3-4 minutes before taking off the heat. Continue to mix the ingredients until it thickens. Add the mixture on top of the cooled shortbread and allow it to set until firm. Once it is ready, you can slice it into 2-inch strips about the size of a normal Twix.
- Chocolate Coating – In a heat-safe bowl, add in the chocolate almond bark and oil and melt in the microwave until smooth making sure to mix every 10 seconds.
- Assembly – Place parchment paper onto a flat tray. Place one of the prepared bars onto a fork and dip it into the chocolate, use another fork to scoop the chocolate on the top and sides of the bar. Run the bottom of the fork and bar against the edge of the bowl or use the other fork to scrape and remove the excess chocolate. Put onto the prepared flat tray lined with parchment paper. Continue until all the bars are coated.
- Set the tray with all the finished candy into the fridge to chill for about 15 minutes or until firm. Serve and enjoy!
Tips and Variations
Chocolate – You can use any type of chocolate you want like; white chocolate or dark chocolate. If you decide to use white chocolate, you could even use food coloring to make them colorful for Holidays. I use chocolate almond bark, but any melted chocolate will work, including chocolate chips.
Additions – feel free to add nuts or rice Krispies to the chocolate or caramel mixture.
Size – You can make these Twix candy bars any size that you want! Sometimes we love to make bite size Twix!
Variations – Instead of homemade caramel sauce, spread peanut butter over the shortbread crust.
Storing – Place the leftover candy in wrappers, an airtight container, or in a Ziplock bag. You can keep these stored up to 2-3 days at room temperature.

Hi, these look amazing but the directions are a bit confusing to me. They say to line a 9 X 9 pan with parchment paper but it looks more like a 9 X 13 pan to me. Could you please set me straight?
Hi Baker Mom. Yes you are correct. That was a typo. It is a 9×13. Thanks!
