What are Snowball Cookies?
Snowball Cookies are a mixture of a few ingredients. The ingredients are formed into a ball, baked and add a dusting of sugar they make snowballs. These are very similar to cake balls that are then rolled in the powdered sugar. This gives the appearance of snowballs when piled together.
What You’ll Need
If you’re looking for a simple fall dessert, then you’re in the right place!
- Butter- Be sure to use unsalted butter to control the amount of salt in the recipe.
- Powdered sugar- This will be used in the balls and as the coating
- Vanilla extract- Always use pure vanilla for the best flavoring.
- Flour- Use all purpose flour
- Salt- This will bring out the flavors in your recipe.
- Ground cinnamon, Ground nutmeg, Ground ginger, Allspice- These are the spices that go well with pumpkin.
Can I Add Pecans to Snowballs?
You can add chopped pecans to these snowballs. You can add the chopped pecans to the inside of the ball before it is baked. I recommend chopping the pecans into very small pieces.

Im not sure is a tsp mean tespoon can I use regulsr salt
Hi Janice. Yes tsp is a teaspoon and regular salt will work fine.
There is no pumpkin in them?!?! Could you sub some of the butter for some pumpkin purée?
Hi Gail. I haven’t tried that but it should work fine and add some more pumpkin flavor. Let us know if you try it!
I replaced 1/4 cup of flour with pumpkin powder and got good pumpkin flavor. I also added 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans.
My first batch flattened a little so I chilled the dough, 2nd batch was great!
Could the balls be made with a vegan butter – just watching my cholesterol levels Also wondering if they need to sitting the fridge to get cool again before baking, to keep their shape?
Hi Donna. Yes, vegan butter would work. Chilling them first may also help to retain their shape.
I made these cookies today. While baking they spread out. Any idea why they didn’t stay in a ball like yours? That being said they were absolutely delicious! Will definitely be making these again.
