Air Fryer Fajita Recipe

We are definitely a taco-loving family. However, sometimes that can get a little bit boring. If we get that craving for some homemade Mexican food, fajitas are our go-to choice. Steak is a nice switch up from ground beef or chicken and even though this meal has a similar flavor profile to tacos, it takes it a step further. The tender juicy steak is marinated in bold flavors like soy sauce, garlic, and lime juice. It’s mouthwatering, trust me!

What You’ll Need to Make Air Fryer Beef Fajitas

Below are all of the ingredients you’ll need to make this delicious meal!

For the Fajita Meat Marinade:

  • Flank Steak: This type of steak comes out perfectly tender and juicy. Cut them into strips across the grain before marinating.
  • Soy sauce: Adds a nice salty note to the steak.
  • Taco seasoning – or fajita seasoning mix will work.
  • Garlic: garlic paste or minced garlic cloves work great.
  • Olive oil
  • Lime: We like fresh lime juice but you can buy it bottled if you prefer.

For the Veggies:

  • Red onion
  • Red bell pepper
  • Green bell pepper
  • Yellow bell pepper
  • Olive oil
  • Taco seasoning

How to Make Air Fryer Steak Fajitas

We are going to break the steps down into categories to make it super simple to follow. Most of the time needed for this steak fajita recipe is prep and marinating. There are less than 20 minutes of cook time!

Fajita Meat Marinade Directions:

  1. Add the Ingredients. In a ziplock bag add the flank steak, soy sauce, taco seasoning, garlic, olive oil, and lime juice. When sealing the bag, try to carefully squeeze out excess air.
  2. Marinate. Let the steak marinate for at least 45 minutes but longer is better (up to 24 hours).

Vegetable Directions:

  1. Season the Veggies. Toss all of your sliced bell peppers, onions, olive oil, and taco seasoning together in a large bowl. Make sure all of the veggies are nice and coated.

Fajitas Directions:

  1. Prep the Air Fryer. Preheat your air fryer to 360 degrees F. This should take about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the Vegetables. Pour the vegetables into the air fryer basket and ensure they are laid as evenly as possible. Cook for 10 minutes, shaking halfway through.
  1. Add the Steak. Next, lay your marinated flank steak right on top of your vegetables. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, flipping the slices halfway through.
  2. Serve. Transfer the steak and veggies to a serving platter and serve with flour tortillas or corn tortillas and toppings. Skip the tortillas if on a low-carb Keto diet.

What is the Best Type of Beef to Use for Air Fryer Fajitas?

Flank steak is our top recommendation because it has a strong flavor and is a little chewy. It’s easy to cook and can stand up to bold seasonings. You can also use skirt steak, strip steak, or hanger steak instead.

Add-Ins and Variations

  • Chicken: Make air fryer chicken fajitas instead of steak as a fun variation by cutting chicken breast (or chicken thighs) into chicken strips.
  • Cheese: Shredded fiesta or taco blend cheese makes a great topping. You can also use cotija.
  • Sour Cream
  • Pico de Gallo: Either fresh or store-bought pico adds a pop of brightness to your fajitas.
  • Salsa
  • Guacamole: You can make some guacamole or even use sliced or mashed avocado.
  • Rice: A quick and easy side or you can add it to your steak fajitas.
  • Black Beans: or refried beans are another great side choice for extra protein or as a vegetarian replacement.
  • Hot Sauce: If you are looking for  spice, use your favorite hot sauce.
  • Cilantro: It is amazing what chopped fresh cilantro can do in terms of flavor.
  • Lime Wedges

How to Store and Reheat Leftover Air Fryer Steak Fajitas

Leftover steak fajitas and vegetables can be stored in an airtight container or a ziplock bag in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Either the microwave or your air fryer can be used for reheating, but I recommend the air fryer to preserve texture. Heat in the air fryer at 400 degrees F for 3-4 minutes or until hot and serve as usual!
