The Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make the Homemade Salsa Recipe (the exact measurements and full recipe instructions are below in the easy to print recipe card):

  • Roma tomatoes – you can use any tomatoes you like.
  • Rotel – Rotel tomatoes with green chiles add so much to the flavor of this salsa.
  • Green onions
  • Red onion – if you don’t have a red/purple onion, use any other onion you like.
  • Jalapeno pepper – to make the salsa spicier, add a whole pepper with the seeds. To make it mild, you can leave out the jalapeno or use half with the seeds and white ribs removed.
  • Fresh cilantro – some people don’t enjoy the flavor of cilantro, so this ingredient can be left out.
  • Clove garlic – fresh garlic is best for this recipe.
  • Lime juice – we do strongly recommend that you use fresh-squeezed lime juice.
  • Chili powder
  • Ground cumin
  • Granulated sugar – the sugar doesn’t really sweeten the salsa, it just helps cut the acidity of the tomatoes a bit.
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Loved how easy this was to make and how delicious it was too! Everyone can adjust the ingredients to their liking (extra heat, little more sweet, etc). It’s a saved favourite for me. I’m adding chopped pineapple to this weekend’s batch!

I have tried several salsa recipes. This one is a keeper!  Very fresh taste with just the right amount of heat.
