If you’ve ever licked a spoon of brownie batter, this Brownie Batter Dip is for you! It’s made with brownie mix, cream cheese, and whipped topping for a fluffy, creamy dip that tastes just like brownie batter. Serve with graham crackers, pretzels, or fresh fruit for a quick and easy dessert dip.

Let’s be honest – even though we know we’re not SUPPOSED to eat brownie batter, most of us have probably licked the spatula once or twice. It’s just so good! That’s where this brownie batter dip comes in. It’s made with brownie mix blended with cream cheese and Cool Whip, so it has the same irresistible brownie batter flavor…while being 100% safe to eat. Think edible cookie dough, but with a brownie twist.
The best part? It’s ready in 10 minutes with just 5 ingredients. It’s been a hit at every party and gathering I’ve made it for, usually with demands for the recipe. We especially love to make this for Valentine’s Day or even game days.
Why I Can’t Get Enough of This Brownie Batter Dip Recipe
- Rich, luscious, and chocolatey. This brownie batter dip feels so decadent. The texture is so smooth and creamy and the flavor is all chocolate. The cream cheese adds just a bit of tanginess to balance the sweet flavors. It’s crazy good!
- Only 5 ingredients. Using a brownie mix instead of trying to make this from scratch keeps the ingredients list short and sweet. There are just five ingredients total, including whipped topping and cream cheese. I love that I can whip it up almost anytime.
- Ready in 10 minutes. It takes less than ten minutes to make this dessert dip. The only “cooking” required is microwaving the brownie mix. Otherwise, it’s just a matter of mixing the ingredients until smooth and creamy. Easy peasy! (And it’s ready as soon as it’s done, no need to chill first!)
Key Ingredients
Here’s an overview of the 5 ingredients needed to make this dessert dip. Scroll down to the recipe card below for the exact measurements.
- Cream cheese – I made this with full-fat brick-style cream cheese, which is what I recommend. Reduced fat cream cheese will likely be too soft.
- Whipped topping – Such as Cool Whip. It adds a light, fluffy texture to the dip.
- Brownie mix – Use your favorite boxed brownie mix.
- Whole milk – 2% milk would also work.
- Mini chocolate chips – I like to fold these in for added bits of chocolate throughout.

How To Make Brownie Batter Dip
This dip comes together in less than 10 minutes, in just a few quick and easy steps. The printable instructions can be found in the recipe card below.
- Heat treat the brownie mix. Add the dry brownie mix to a glass bowl. Microwave for 2 minutes in 30-second increments, stirring each time.
- Beat the cream cheese. In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Beat in the brownie mix and milk.

- Add the other ingredients. Fold in the whipped topping and the chocolate chips.
- Serve. Transfer the dip to a serving bowl. Sprinkle more chocolate chips on top. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to enjoy.

Heat Treating Brownie Mix
The first step in making this brownie batter dip is heat treating the brownie mix in the microwave. Why is this important?
Brownie mix contains raw flour, which can contain bacteria and cause foodborne illness. The flour is actually one of the reasons you’re not supposed to eat brownie batter by the spoonful. I know most of us have, and have been just fine, but heat treating the flour/brownie mix takes just 2 minutes and eliminates any potential risk.
While you can heat treat flour/brownie mix in the oven by spreading it on a baking sheet and baking at 300F for about 10 minutes, I find for the purposes of this recipe that the microwave works fine. Just microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each time to ensure that the brownie mix is heated evenly.

Recipe Tips & Variations
Here are a few things to keep in mind when making this brownie batter dip recipe for the first time.
- Room temperature cream cheese. For that smooth, luscious texture, be sure that the cream cheese is softened ahead of time. This makes it much easier to mix and ensures a smooth batter without any lumps.
- Fold, don’t stir, the whipped topping. To keep the dip light and fluffy, gently fold in the whipped topping. Stirring it can cause it to deflate/melt and it won’t have the same light texture.
- Let the brownie mix cool. Once heated in the microwave, let the brownie mix cool back down to room temperature. If it’s added to the other ingredients while it’s still hot, it can cause them to melt – especially the Cool Whip.
- Other mix-in ideas. I like to add the mini chocolate chips for even more chocolate. Feel free to swap them with mini M&Ms (or any other candies), Reese’s pieces, crushed Oreos, chopped Reese’s, white chocolate chips or even crushed peppermints for a twist.

What To Serve With This Dessert Dip
There are so many fun things to pair with this brownie batter dip! I like to offer a variety of sweet and salty options, plus some fresh fruit. Here are a few ideas:
- Pretzels
- Vanilla wafers
- Sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
- Graham crackers
- Marshmallows
- Animal crackers
- Fresh fruit (like strawberries, bananas, and apple slices)
- Cinnamon sugar pita chips or cinnamon sugar tortilla chips
Proper Storage
Brownie batter dip is best enjoyed within 24 hours. However, it can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
The cream cheese will harden in the fridge, so I recommend leaving it on the counter for 20 minutes or so before serving, to get that perfect dippable texture.
