How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookies

Set the oven to 350 degrees.

Add the flour, baking soda, and salt into a medium bowl and combine, then set it aside.

Add the butter, sugar, and brown sugar into a large bowl or standing mixer. Combine all the ingredients until creamy and wet sand-like.

Pour in the vanilla and eggs, then combine on medium to high speed for approximately 30-45 seconds until the batter is creamy.

Add the flour mixture into the batter by working in portions. Combine the ingredients on medium speed while using a spatula to scrape the sides to get an excess batter off the sides. When the ingredients are fully incorporated, they will begin to form a soft dough.

Add the chocolate chips into the batter using a large spoon or spatula.

Start arranging portions of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use a large portion scoop or spoon, while also making sure to leave about 1 1/2-2 inches of space between them.

Using a scooper to portion the dough.

Place into the oven for about 10-12 minutes or until the edges turn a light brown.

Take out of the oven and begin adding some more chocolate chips on top of the cookies right away if desired.

Serve and Enjoy with a glass of milk! We also love sprinkle sea salt on top to give our cookies that sweet and salty flavor, but this is totally optional.

Notes

Let cookies cool and keep them stored in a sealed container.
This recipe makes 14-18 large cookies, depending on the size scooped. (My scoop is 2 ½ inches in diameter and I made 16 large cookies.)
Depending on the size of the cookies you make, you may need to adjust the cooking time. For smaller cookies, lower the time to 8-10 minutes.

  1. Hi Jill

My cookies failed. Deep Dish Chocolate Chip. Did you use 1/2 cup chocolate syrup?

    Yours looked beautiful and delicious.

    I don’t know where I went wrong.

They taste fair. But chocolate and flat.

    1. I’m so sorry to hear this Glenda! Yes, 1/2 cup syrup. If they were flat, it could be from overmixing or undermixing the butter and sugar, the butter temperature or possibly oven temp?

  2. Glenda Wheelis

I was planning to make your Deep Dish Chocolate Chip Cookies but reading your post it had you may like The Very Best Chocolate Chip Cookies and others. Now I don’t know which cookies to make.

Are the Best better than the Deep Dish?

On the Deep Dish do you use medium size scoop and half it or large scoop and half it?

Thank you. Sorry about questions. I was asked to make some cookies and I want them to be perfect.

    1. Hi Glenda. It’s really a personal preference on the style of cookie you prefer. There are so many variations of the chocolate chip cookie but really you can’t go wrong with any of them! The “Best” are a more traditional type cookie. As for the Deep Dish, you will probably use a large scoop. Just make sure you don’t overfill. Let us know how they turn out!

  3. The area with measurements for the different types of c.c. cookies says 2 1/4 c flour but the recipe says 3 c flour. Please instruct which one is correct. Thank you

    1. Hi Shari. The recipe for these cookies uses 3 cups. The other info is just for reference if you are looking to adjust to your preference.

  4. 5 stars
I just made these I can’t wait to try them! But they came out so big and fluffy just how I like my cookies!
