Dr Pepper Ham Glaze

We all know that Dr Pepper is the king of all soda! Well, at least I think so! I am one of those Dr Pepper fanatics and love cooking/baking with it. Like our Dr Pepper brownies, Dr Pepper baked beans, cherry Dr Pepper cake, Dr Pepper Ribs and Dr Pepper BBQ sauce to just name a few.

This Dr Pepper ham glaze only uses a handful of ingredients like pineapple, brown sugar, honey, and the star – Dr Pepper to make the glaze. It’s super simple and easy to make with just a few quick steps to make the glaze, then the crockpot does the cooking for you!

Ingredients Needed

This pineapple glaze is used for a spiraled ham in this recipe, but any type of ham will work well with this glaze.

  • Ham – You will need about 4-6 pounds of spiral sliced boneless ham.
  • Pineapple – You will use crushed pineapple for this recipe with the juice.
  • Brown Sugar – This will add a richness to your recipe.
  • Honey – This will be used as a natural sweetener for the Glaze.
  • Dr Pepper – This will be added into the glaze for flavoring.

How To Make Dr Pepper Ham

  • Add the pineapple, brown sugar, honey, and Dr. Pepper into a medium saucepan and cook on medium heat.
  • Cook until the mixture begins to bubble, then turn the heat down to medium low.
  • Turn the heat down until the mixture becomes thick and glazy, this will take about 10-15 minutes.

  • Place in your slow cooker and cover with lid and cook for 4 hours on low.
  • Slowly take out the Ham from the Slow Cooker and place on a sheet pan lined with foil.
  • Add the finished glaze over top of the cooked Ham.

  • Set the sheet pan under the broiler in your stove and cook for another 5-7 minutes, watch your ham closely to make sure it doesn’t burn.
  • The sugar glaze will become a caramelized brown color when ready.
  • Serve and Enjoy!

Baking Method

We prefer to cook this ham in the slow cooker, but you can also bake the ham in the oven.

Baking instructions:

  • Wrap your ham tightly with aluminum foil.
  • Place ham, cut side down, in a roasting pan (or large baking dish).
  • Allow to rest at room temperature for 1 ½ hours.
  • Preheat the oven to 275 degrees.
  • Place in the oven with the oven rack towards the bottom and bake for 1 ½ hours (or when the ham is hotter than 100 degrees in the center).
  • Once cooked, remove the aluminum foil and spread about 1/3 of the glaze on top.
  • Bake uncovered for another 20 minutes.
  • Remove from oven, cover in remaining glaze and cover loosely foil.
  • Allow to rest for about 40 minutes, before slicing and serving.

What To Serve With Dr Pepper Glazed Ham

We love to serve this ham really any time of year, but especially for the Holidays. A side of green beans, creamy mashed potatoes, and warm dinner rolls goes well with this slow cooker ham recipe and perfect for Christmas dinner.

You can also serve leftover ham in ham sandwiches, ham casserole or appetizers like ham and cheese pinwheels.

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat combine the pineapple, brown sugar, honey and Dr. Pepper.
  • Bring to a bubble and reduce heat to medium low.
  • Reduce mixture until it is thickened and glazy, about 10-15 minutes.
  • Place your ham into the slow cooker and coat it with half of the glaze mixture..
  • Cover and cook in the slow cooker on low for 4 hours.
  • Carefully remove the ham from the slow cooker onto a foil lined sheet pan.
  • Pour over the rest of the glaze.
  • Put under the broiler in your stove for about 5-7 minutes, watching closely.
  • You want the sugar to caramelize, not burn.
  • Serve!

    Hi. I love, love, love, this recipe! Dr. Pepper and pineapple are two of my favorite things! This is the only glaze, I use now! I do make it in the oven and it still comes out perfect! Thanks so much!
