Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Flour – All-purpose flour.
  • Baking Powder – add to the flour.
  • Salt – just a tiny bit.
  • Nutmeg and Cinnamon- for flavor.
  • Milk – whichever milk you’ve got on hand.
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla – real vanilla extract.
  • Granulated Sugar – for baking.
  • Powdered Sugar – to coat the cake in.
  • Vegetable Oil – for frying.

How To Make Funnel Cake

  1. Beat the eggs until they are nice and foamy. Then pour in the milk and stir.
  2. Add in the dry ingredients and stir until you get a dough.
  3. Heat oil in the pan and drop spoon fulls of batter into the oil.
  4. Cook on both sides until golden brown then dry on a paper towel and toss in powdered sugar.

Because they are fried, these are best served fresh and eaten right away. If you leave them out they get soggy and lose the crunch that makes them so good. Feel free to use as much powdered sugar as you want. It’s what makes the cake bites so delicious!

These are super tasty as is, but you can also dip them in chocolate or caramel sauce, too!

I made the funnel cake bites but my batter was very watery. I followed the recipe to the T. Flavor was good, but they were NOT pretty or round like your photo. It was for a birthday boy and I did not dare give him those hideous looking things. ????

    1. Hi Adelina. Sorry they were not as pretty as you would have liked them. That is the tricky part as far as batter thickness and oil temperature. Not sure why your batter was watery, but if you try this again, add the milk last and only a little at a time until you get the desired consistency. Also, make sure your oil is at 375 before dropping the batter in.

Hi! I want to try this recipe but I don’t deep fry so I was wondering if these could be done in an air fryer? Thanks!

    1. Hi Pam. I haven’t tried these in the air fryer but it should work. You may have to experiment on a few at first for the correct time.

  3. It makes it so much easier if the ingredients are listed in the order used, instead of having to scan the list. I will be trying soon.

    1. Use an electric Aeblskiver..out in 1 tBSP of batter, then dallop the jelly, then top with batter. Easy and less messy. google recipes & video and you will see a tutorial
