Why You’ll Love This Hot Chocolate Dip
This is one of my favorite dips to make for holiday parties. Here are a few reasons why.
- All the flavors of hot chocolate. With hot cocoa mix in the recipe plus marshmallow crème, marshmallows, and chocolate chips, this dip really has all of the flavors of a steaming mug of hot cocoa.
- Ready in 5 minutes. I always forget how simple this recipe is until I make it it comes together in less than 5 minutes. That’s my kind of party prep!
- Perfect for holiday parties. While you can certainly enjoy this year-round, I love to make it in the fall and winter, especially around the holidays. It’s a great dessert for a holiday party buffet table, especially served on a platter surrounded by a variety of dippers.

How To Make Hot Chocolate Dip
It takes just a few minutes to make this hot cocoa dip. You can find the printable version of the instructions in the recipe card below.
- Beat the cream cheese and butter. Beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth. If desired, you can do this with a fork but it takes a few minutes to combine.
- Combine the ingredients. Stir in the marshmallow crème, hot chocolate mix, and confectioners sugar until smooth then mix in the vanilla. Fold in the marshmallows and chocolate chips.
- Serve. Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish. Chill until ready to serve.
Tips & Variations
Here are a few things to keep in mind when making this hot cocoa dip.
- Use your favorite hot cocoa. Feel free to use any hot cocoa mix you’d like. Peppermint hot chocolate mix or dark chocolate hot chocolate mix would be great here too.
- Make mint hot chocolate dip. For a minty twist, use peppermint hot chocolate mix or a drop of peppermint extract in the cream cheese. Top with crushed candy canes or peppermints.
- Use softened ingredients. For easier mixing (especially if using a fork instead of a mixer), be sure the cream cheese and butter are softened before beginning. This also helps ensure a creamy, smooth consistency.
Favorite Dippers
You can serve this recipe with all sorts of wonderful dippers! Here are just a few great choices I love enjoying with this recipe:
- Vanilla Wafers
- Graham Crackers
- Regular or Golden Oreos
- Large marshmallows
- Fresh Fruit (like strawberries)
- Chocolate chip cookies
- Frosted Animal Crackers
- Pretzels
Proper Storage
I think this hot chocolate dip does better when you make it and then serve it on the same day. The dip can be refrigerated for up to 3-5 days, but the marshmallows and marshmallow creme will get sticky.
