Ingredients You Will Need:
Here’s what you’ll need to make the Loaded Baked Potato Ranch Dip (the exact measurements and full recipe instructions are below in the printable recipe card):
- Sour cream – full-fat sour cream is best for this recipe. For a lighter version, try light sour cream or half sour cream and half plain Greek yogurt.
- Dry Ranch dressing mix – you can use Hidden Valley or any other brand you like.
- Block sharp cheddar cheese – if you’re in a hurry, it’s fine to use pre-shredded cheese.
- Green onions
- Bacon – use any bacon you like and cook it until crisp then crumble or use real bacon bits if in a time crunch.
How to Make Loaded Baked Potato Dip
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sour cream and ranch seasoning. Stir in the cheddar cheese, green onions, and bacon.
- Cover the dip and refrigerate for about 2 hours before serving.
Tip: reserve a little of the crumbled bacon, chopped green onions, and shredded cheddar cheese, then sprinkle it over top of the dip for garnish.
How to Serve Loaded Potato Dip
As I’m sure you’ve noticed, the dip is inspired by the toppings that go on a loaded baked potato. So where’s the potato? That’s the fun part! You can use all sorts of potatoes for dipping in the loaded baked potato dip. Here are some ideas:
- Potato chips – a more sturdy chip like kettle cooked or wavy is best, but use any potato chips you like.
- French fries
- Waffle fries
- Baked potato pieces – cut baked potatoes into large bite size pieces and scoop out some of the potato to make potato skins for dipping. You can also melt a bit of cheese on them before serving with the loaded potato dip.
- Pretzels – we like the thin pretzel crisps as a dipper.
- Tater tots
Other Dipping Ideas
Even though this dip is made for potatoes, you can also slice and toast a baguette for dipping. We also love it with sliced fresh veggies, such as carrot sticks, celery, and cucumber slices.
Variations
- Replace the green onions with fresh chives.
- Add in a teaspoon of garlic powder, a half teaspoon or pepper / salt or a dash of hot sauce.
- Use 4 oz of cream cheese combined with half the sour cream for a “thicker” dip.
How to Store Leftover Dip
Keep the leftover dip in an airtight food storage container. It will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to three days. This dip does not freeze well.
