The Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make a Microwave Cinnamon Roll (the exact measurements and full recipe instructions are below in the easy to print recipe card):
- All-purpose flour
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Milk – I used whole milk, but you can use skim, 1%, or 2% instead.
- Butter
- Granulated sugar
- Ground cinnamon
- Powdered sugar – the powdered sugar when mixed with milk will create a glaze for the cinnamon roll.
How to Make a Cinnamon Roll in a Mug
- In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the milk and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a clean and lightly floured surface; knead a few times until smooth.
- Roll the dough out into a strip about 3-inches wide and 12-16 inches long.
- Brush the inside of a microwave safe coffee mug generously with some of the melted butter. Brush the remaining melted butter onto the rolled out dough.
- Sprinkle the dough with granulated sugar and cinnamon.
- Start at one end and roll the dough up to look like a cinnamon roll.
- Place the roll in the buttered mug.
- Microwave on high heat for 60 second until the dough is set.
- In a small bowl, combine the powdered sugar and milk to make a glaze. Pour the glaze over the hot cinnamon roll.
- Cool slightly, then enjoy.
Variations
- Brown Sugar – Instead of granulated sugar, you can sprinkle brown sugar over the dough with cinnamon.
- Nutmeg – Sprinkle a small pinch of ground nutmeg over the cinnamon for a little extra flavor. Don’t add too much; the flavor is strong!
- Cream Cheese Frosting – Whip together 2 ounces of softened cream cheese with 1 tablespoon softened butter and 1/4 cup powdered sugar to make an easy cream cheese frosting.

I made these for the first time today! I doubled the recipe and made 2
I wanted them to be more brown so I popped them in the oven at 350 for 5 minutes. Next time I think that I’ll just bake them in the oven. I haven’t tasted them yet!
Great recipe for a quick morning treat! Thank you!
Thanks Leasha!
