Homemade Oreo crust is topped with creamy peanut butter filling and rich chocolate ganache in this No Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie (aka buckeye pie). It’s the ultimate dessert for chocolate-peanut butter lovers!

This chocolate peanut butter pie is a true dream. I love any and all chocolate peanut butter desserts, whether we’re talking about my chocolate peanut butter cookies or chocolate peanut butter brownies, but this pie remains a favorite.
The peanut butter filling is light and fluffy, made with peanut butter, cream cheese, and Cool Whip. It’s layered on top of a homemade Oreo crust and topped with a rich chocolate ganache and (optional) peanut butter frosting. Every bite gets just the right amount of chocolate and peanut butter and it’s made without even turning on the oven.
Why This Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie Is Always A Hit
- Chocolate + peanut butter. There has never been a more perfect dessert flavor combination than chocolate and peanut butter. This pie has the best ratio of both flavors, with neither overpowering the other, and pleases fans of both.
- The chocolate ganache. Some chocolate peanut butter pies are just a peanut butter filling in an Oreo crust. But, I wanted to take it a step farther. I added a simple chocolate ganache layer on top, enveloping the creamy peanut butter filling between two rich chocolate layers.
- Absolutely no baking required. In fact, the only “cooking” this pie requires is the microwave to melt the chocolate. Otherwise, it’s completely no-bake and no-cook! It’s perfect in the summer when I don’t want to heat up the kitchen.

Recipe Ingredients
Let’s take a look at the ingredients in each part of this recipe. Scroll down to the recipe card below for the exact measurements.
Oreo Crust
- Oreo cookies – I used regular Oreos. There’s no need to remove the filling as it helps bind the crust together.
- Butter – Melted butter helps the Oreo crumbs stick together.
Peanut Butter Filling
- Cream cheese – You want regular, brick-style full-fat cream cheese. Be sure to leave it on the counter for at least 30 minutes to bring it to room temperature.
- Peanut butter – I recommend a regular processed creamy peanut butter. Natural peanut butter tends to separate and has more of a gritty texture.
- Powdered sugar – Helps to sweeten and stabilize the filling.
- Cool Whip – Lightens the filling and helps create a fully texture.
Chocolate Ganache
- Chocolate chips – I like semi-sweet for this to keep the pie from becoming overly sweet. Dark chocolate is great, too.
- Peanut butter – Adding a bit of peanut butter to the ganache helps incorporate more of the peanut butter flavor.
- Heavy whipping cream – Thins the melted chocolate to create a pourable texture.
Peanut Butter Frosting
- Butter – I used unsalted butter to fully control the flavor. It should be softened but not melted.
- Peanut butter – I definitely recommend a regular creamy peanut butter for the frosting to achieve the right consistency.
- Powdered sugar – Sweetens and stabilizes the frosting.
- Heavy whipping cream – Helps get the perfect consistency.
How To Make No Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie
This no bake pie comes together in a few easy steps but it does need to chill at a few points, so be sure to leave plenty of time. The printable instructions can be found in the recipe card below.

- Make the crust. Pulse the Oreos into fine crumbs. Add to a mixing bowl and stir with the melted butter. Press into the pie pan and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Make the filling. Use the whisk attachment on a mixer to beat the cream cheese, peanut butter, and powdered sugar until smooth. Mix in the Cool Whip.

- Chill. Spread the mixture evenly on top of the crust. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Make the ganache. Add the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and heavy cream to a bowl. Microwave in 30 second increments until the chocolate chips begin to melt. Stir to finish melting the chocolate. The ganache should appear thick. Pour on top of the peanut butter and spread evenly.
- Chill. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours, until the chocolate ganache is firm.
- Add the frosting. Mix the frosting ingredients on medium speed until fluffy and creamy. Transfer to a piping bag and pipe along the edge of the pie.

Tips & Tricks
Here are a few helpful things to keep in mind when making this no bake chocolate peanut butter pie.
- Room temperature ingredients. The butter and cream cheese should be at room temperature when starting this recipe. Be sure that the butter is not melted, though. Cold butter and cream cheese will result in a lumpy filling.
- Chill each layer. It may seem redundant to keep chilling between layers but it ensures that they stay separate. The filling is very soft before it sets and the ganache would sink right into it.
- Other topping ideas. Instead of peanut butter frosting, you can pipe homemade whipped cream on top of the pie and add some mini Reese’s or Reese’s pieces for a final touch.
- Use creamy peanut butter. Creamy peanut butter from a brand like Skippy or Jif is ideal for this peanut butter chocolate pie. I’ve found that natural peanut butter tends to have a different consistency and often separates from the oil.
- Press the crust into the pan. When adding the Oreo crumb mixture to the pan, be sure to press it firmly into the bottom and up the sides of the of the pie plate. I often like to use the bottom of a glass to make it easier.

Proper Storage
- Fridge: Store chocolate peanut butter pie in the fridge, either covered tightly or in an airtight container. It’s best enjoyed within 3 days.
- Freezer: It can be also be frozen, ideally without the frosting, once it has set completely. Wrap tightly in two layers of plastic wrap and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge.

I don’t see on the recipe when you are to add the mini m&ms. Is that optional?
Hi Sarah. Sorry for the confusion. We are working on updating this post, but yes they are optional.
How much of the m&ms would you add?
We used 1/4 cup mini’s in the crust and 1/4 cup mini’s in the filling.
Thank you so much! I will be making this in the morning!!
I love the recipe, but i would tweak a few things. I would probably reduce the powdered sugar by half, or use unsweetened peanut butter. It would be helpful to mention that a 16 oz jar of peanut butter is exactly 1.5 cups. Next time I’ll make a crust with a blend of oreos and graham crackers.
Thanks F!
I am trying to follow the recipe and I see cream cheese in the instructions, but not ingredients. I also see heavy whipping cream, not cool whip in the ingredients so I am confused.
Hi Greer. Are you looking at the recipe card? Yes, there is cream cheese in the filling as well as cool whip. The heavy whipping cream is for the ganache and the frosting.
Thanks for sharing! How far ahead of time can I make it?
I would highly suggest adding 1/4 cup of powdered sugar to the peanut butter filling. I think the filling tastes too sour without it.
I’ve made this recipe twice now it’s delicious! It’s tedious to make. It’s incredibly time consuming but it’s easy. If you’ve never made a dessert before, you can make this one. Also today, I doubled the recipe . Everything went well until I got to the frosting (which is the best part). I started with double everything except cream, which I started at 5 tsp. It was too thin so I added (bits at a time) more powdered sugar. And because so much sugar, I also added another spoonful of peanut butter. It was still thin but it worked. So.. you can double this recipe, too.
This dessert is FABULOUS! Do you think it could be converted to a 9 x 13 pan?
I love making desserts all yours look so good and alot great for holidays and fun for kids . I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE RECIEPE FOR THE PUMPKIN CREAM CHEESE MUFFINS THANK YOU SO MUCH .. GOD BLESS
for this yummy pie .If I dont have the butter that it requires is there something else I could use to replace it
Should this be stored refrigerated or is it okay to be left out at room temp?
I like to store mine in the fridge.
nice, my friend is allergic to peanuts
Delicious!!!
Made this for Father’s Day. Turned out really well. Thanks!
Can this Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie be frozen for future use?
If I don’t have a stand mixer would a hand mixer work? I’m not sure what the difference in mixing speed, length of time mixing, etc would be. Thanks!
i love peanut butter but my friend cant have them
My hand mixer worked no problem. Just do a little at a time.
