I am confident that once you make these pizza crescent rolls, you’ll never buy pizza rolls from the frozen section again. These are far superior in so many ways, from the flaky, buttery crust to knowing exactly what’s inside. Plus, they’re ready in less than 30 minutes with just a few ingredients.

These are in regular rotation for family pizza night, with other favorites like sheet pan pizza and pizza pull apart bread. They’re great for game day, too. I can make them faster than the local restaurants can deliver!

Why These Pizza Crescent Rolls Are A Family Favorite

  • Ready in 25 minutes. Freshly baked pizza crescent rolls can be on the table in under 30 minutes, which makes them great for busy days.
  • Freeze well. I always like to make extras and keep them in the fridge. They are fantastic reheated from frozen (full directions below). It makes a quick, easy snack or dinner for the kids or the days when there’s just no time to prepare anything.
  • Customizable. I kept things simple with pepperoni and mozzarella cheese as that’s what my family loves but feel free to customize these with any toppings your family enjoys. You can even let everyone build their own.
  • Kid-approved. Everyone loves these pizza rolls, from the young kids to the adults. They’re great to whip up when the kids have friends over – much cheaper than ordering pizza but the kids love them just as much.

Key Ingredients

Here’s a look at the few ingredients needed to make this easy appetizer. Be sure to scroll down to the recipe card below for the exact measurements.

  • Crescent rolls – Canned crescent rolls work as the crust on these pizza rolls.
  • Butter – The butter helps the oregano stick to the dough and also ensures they bake with a nice golden finish.
  • Dried oregano – Adds a bit of Italian flavor to the dough. You could also use Italian seasoning.
  • Mozzarella cheese sticks – Cheese sticks cut in half are the perfect size to roll up in the crescent rolls. Working with the sticks is much easier than trying to roll shredded cheese or sliced cheese.
  • Pepperoni slices – Feel free to skip for plain cheese pizza rolls or replace with another topping.
  • Dried parsley – I like to sprinkle the finished pizza rolls with parsley, but it’s completely optional.
  • Pizza sauce – I don’t add the pizza sauce inside the rolls to prevent the crescent rolls from becoming soggy, but I do love to dip these in homemade pizza sauce.

More Filling Ideas

I kept my pizza crescent rolls simple with just pepperoni and mozzarella, but you can really customize these with any pizza toppings you like. The key is simply to not overload them so they still roll easily. I also recommend going light on any sauce to prevent soggy dough. Here are some ideas:

  • BBQ chicken – Add leftover rotisserie chicken and a thin layer of your favorite BBQ sauce (this one is our favorite!) or some BBQ pulled chicken and cheese for a twist.
  • Chicken bacon ranch – Use leftover rotisserie chicken (or well drained canned chicken), crumbled bacon, and a light coating of ranch dressing to make chicken bacon ranch pizza rolls.
  • Meat lovers – In addition to the pepperoni, add salami, bacon, ham, ground sausage, or any other combination of your favorite meat.
  • Vegetarian – Skip the pepperoni and add sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, onion, olives, or any other veggies you’d like.
  • Buffalo Chicken – Use slow cooker buffalo chicken or leftover buffalo chicken dip as the filling. Serve with ranch or blue cheese to dip.

How To Make Pizza Crescent Rolls

These homemade pizza crescent rolls are so quick and easy to make. Perfect for an after-school or game day snack. The printable instructions can be found in the recipe card below.

  • Prep. Preheat the oven to 350F. Line the baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Unroll the dough. Unroll and separate the crescent rolls. Brush each triangle with melted butter and sprinkle with oregano.
  • Assemble. Place 3 slices of pepperoni on the larger end of each triangle. Add half a cheese stick on top. Fold in the sides over the cheese then roll and pinch the seams to seal.
  • Bake. Place them on a baking sheet 2 inches apart. Brush with more melted butter. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the rolls are golden brown.
  • Enjoy. Brush the tops with the remaining butter. Garnish with parsley and serve with pizza sauce on the side.

Recipe Tips & Tricks

Here are a few things to keep in mind when making these pizza crescent rolls.

  • Don’t overfill. I find that 3 slices of pepperoni and half a stick of cheese is the perfect amount to fill the crescent roll triangles. If swapping or adding ingredients, take care to not overfill so that they don’t easily roll or the dough doesn’t become soggy.
  • Leave space on the pan. I like to leave about 2 inches of space between the pizza crescent rolls when baking, to ensure that the air can circulate and all sides cook evenly.
  • Seal the seam. After rolling the crescent dough, be sure to press firmly to seal the seam so it doesn’t unroll on the pan.
  • Try a different topping. Instead of just butter, try brushing these with garlic butter or even sprinkling a bit of parmesan on top.

What To Serve Them With

These pepperoni pizza crescent rolls make a quick, easy lunch or dinner on their own. I usually just offer up some pizza sauce or homemade ranch for dipping.

For a more balanced meal, you could always add a wedge salad or side salad.

We also love these as part of a bigger game day appetizer spread, with other favorites like honey garlic wings and chili cheese dip.

How To Store & Reheat Leftovers

  • Fridge: Store leftover pizza crescent rolls in an airtight container in the fridge. They’re best enjoyed within 3 days.
  • Freezer: These also freeze very well! Once they’ve cooled completely, transfer to a ziploc bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. They can be reheated from frozen.
  • Reheat: The best way to reheat these pizza rolls, from the fridge or the freezer, is in the oven. Bake at 350F until heated through. Reheating them in the microwave also works but they won’t be as crisp.
