The Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make Cake Mix Cookie Bars (the exact measurements and full recipe instructions are below in the easy to print recipe card):
Yellow cake mix – any brand you like will work.
Eggs – we used large eggs.
Butter – regular salted butter is just right for this recipe.
Semi-sweet chocolate chips – be sure to use semi-sweet chocolate chips and not milk chocolate which will easily burn while the cookie bars bake. Semi-sweet chocolate chips (or even chocolate chunks) give these bars the familiar chocolate flavor we all love.
How to Make Cake Mix Cookie Bars
Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Spray a 9 x 13-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray; set aside for when you’re ready to use it.
In a large mixing bowl, mix together the dry cake mix with the melted butter and eggs until well combined.
Fold in chocolate chips. The batter will be very thick.
Spread the batter into greased baking pan.
Tip: lightly coat a spatula or your clean hand with cooking spray or vegetable oil and press the dough down into the pan.
Bake the cookie bars at 350F for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
Cool for 10-15 minutes, then slice into squares to serve.

Can oatmeal be added to recipe
Hi Kathie. Yes, I think oatmeal would work well in this recipe. I would add around a cup give or take.
Can dark chocolate chips be used in place of semi sweet?
Hi Lisa. Yes, we substitute dark chocolate here with many recipes and it will work fine with this one.
Is this an air fryer recipe.?
Hi Denice. This recipe is made to be baked in the oven.

Glad to hear it Amelia!
Made these with my grandson…very easy and delicious! I added vanilla and used an 11×8 pan for a slightly thicker cookie bar. Best part, easy enough for a 3 year old to help!
These were quick, easy, and delicious! I added in about 3/4 c. chopped pecans. I also only had 1/2 bag of chocolate chips, so I chopped up some snack size Hershey bars, which were like chocolate chunks. These are rich, and go well with a cold glass of milk!
Just made this with a Pillsbury sugar free cake mix and Hershey’s zero sugar chocolate chips for my diabetic husband. He LOVES it. Thank you!
Have company this weekend going to make these they sound delish
