A plate of cherry cobbler

Cobblers are one of my go-to desserts when I want something super tasty and low effort. I’ve made many variations before, from chocolate and pumpkin to berry and peach. This cherry cobbler is a classic that my family is current obsessed with. And it might just be the easiest cobbler recipe I’ve shared yet!

Why This Is The Best Cherry Cobbler Recipe

Here are a few of the reasons why I love this recipe so.

  • Dessert in under an hour. From start to finish, this cherry cobbler takes about 40 minutes to make. Since it’s best enjoyed warm from the oven, that means that dessert can be ready to enjoy in well under an hour.
  • Bisquick topping. Instead of making the topping from scratch and measuring out a bunch of ingredients, this recipe takes a shortcut by starting with Bisquick. It’s so easy and still creates a soft, golden topping.
  • Only 5 ingredients. Besides the Bisquick and cherry pie filling, the only other ingredients needed to make this recipe are milk, sugar, and butter. So simple!

Tips & Variations

Here are a few easy tricks to making the best cherry cobbler, as well as a few fun variations.

  • Add more flavor. You can mix 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon or nutmeg into the Bisquick batter for extra flavor. Almond extract (1/4 teaspoon) pairs well with the cherries.
  • Try a different pie filling. Feel free to swap the cherry pie filling for other fruit fillings such as blueberry, peach, or apple. Strawberry or mixed berry fillings also work well.
  • Other pan options. If you don’t have a 9×9-inch dish, use a similar-sized pan or an 8-inch round dish for similar results.
  • Add butter on top. For a crispier topping, brush a little extra melted butter over the batter just before baking.
  • Double the recipe. To make a larger batch, double all ingredients and bake it in a 9×13-inch dish. Cooking time may need an extra 5 minutes; check for a golden topping and bubbling edges for doneness.

How To Store Leftovers

  • Fridge. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Ensure the cobbler is fully cooled before covering and refrigerating.
  • Reheat. Reheat individual portions in the microwave for 20-30 seconds. To reheat larger amounts, cover the dish with foil and warm in a 325°F (165°C) oven for about 10-15 minutes.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking dish to keep the cobbler from sticking.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the Bisquick mix, milk, sugar, and melted butter. Stir gently until the batter is just combined and smooth.
  • Pour the cherry pie filling into the baking dish and spread it out evenly with a spoon or spatula.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the Bisquick mixture on top of the cherries. The batter won’t completely cover the filling, and that’s fine.
  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes. The cobbler is ready when the topping is golden brown and firm to the touch.
  • Remove the dish from the oven and allow it to cool for about 5-10 minutes before serving. This will help the cherry filling set slightly.
  • Scoop the cobbler onto plates or in bowls while it’s still warm. Serve it with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired. Enjoy!

  1. The topping was really thin and poured on the cherry pie filling instead of going on in scoops! I followed the ingredient list exactly, and cannot figure out why the topping was so thin!? No way to brush any extra butter on the filling! Hoping it turns out good…
