Quick Dinner or Appetizer

If you are struggling with what to make for dinner, I highly suggest this philly cheesesteak slider recipe. They are made with ground beef which cooks fast and takes on seasoning so well. With frozen green peppers and onions, you save time on prepping and cooking as well! My kids love having these on a weeknight after a busy school day. No one wants to wait too long for dinner if they’re sleepy!

You can also make these for a party or get-together! They are easily reheated in the oven and stay hot for a good amount of time if you cover the pan with aluminum foil after they are baked. This recipe feeds about 4-6 so you can easily double it and make a second pan!

What is a Philly Cheesesteak?

The traditional Philly cheesesteak got its start in Philadelphia. It is served on a hoagie with sliced ribeye and Cheez Whiz. Some people like sauteed onions, peppers, and mushrooms while others stop at the meat and cheese. It is also common to swap the Cheese Whiz for provolone – which is my favorite way to enjoy it!

What You’ll Need

Simple and inexpensive ingredients are key to making this recipe shine! I promise you are going to love these Philly cheesesteak sliders with ground beef.

  • Ground Beef: 80% lean ground beef is my favorite to use for these sliders.
  • Frozen Peppers and Onions: You can use fresh if you prefer, but using the frozen peppers and onions is what makes this recipe extra easy and fast.
  • Pepper
  • Garlic Salt
  • Provolone Cheese: Classic Philly cheesesteaks use provolone.
  • Slider Buns: I used Hawaiian sweet rolls.
  • Butter
  • Sesame Seeds
  • Parsley: Freshly chopped parsley is an optional garnish for a pop of color.

How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Sliders

This is one of my favorite recipes for steak sliders. All of the filling ingredients are cooked together and then added to delicious, soft buns and baked! So easy and tasty!

  • Step 1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. A great tip is to always turn on your oven while you prep so it’s ready when you are!
  • Step 2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, pepper, garlic salt, peppers, and onions. Cook until the meat is browned.
  • Step 3. Drain grease or any excess liquid from the skillet.
  • Step 4. Add 6 slices of the provolone cheese to the meat mixture and heat until the cheese is melted. Remove the pan from the heat.
  • Step 5. In a 9×13 pan, add the bottom half of your slider rolls.
  • Step 6. Cover the rolls in the meat mixture and then top with the remaining 6 slices of provolone. Finish with the top halves of the slider buns.
  • Step 7.  Melt the butter in a small microwave-safe bowl. Brush it over the top of the sliders and garnish with sesame seeds.
  • Step 8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the buns are golden brown.
  • Step 9. Garnish with fresh parsley and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks

  • Instead of provolone, you can use pepper jack for some kick, mozzarella, Swiss or American. Pick whatever cheese you enjoy the most.
  • Hawaiian rolls are my favorite for this recipe. The sweetness goes well with the savory filling. You can use another kind if you prefer!
  • Additions like sliced jalapenos or sauteed mushrooms are great in these cheesesteak sliders!
