Key Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Marshmallows: You can use regular or mini marshmallows for this recipe.
  • Cereal: You will need rice krispies, you can use plain or another flavor.
  • Coconut: You will combine shredded sweetened coconut with green food coloring to make the bedding to set the mini candy eggs on.

How To Make Rice Krispie Bird Nests

  • Step 1. Use the baking spray to grease two muffin pans. In a large pot or dutch oven, melt the butter on medium-low heat. Put in the marshmallows and cook until fully melted and combined. Take off the heat and add in the vanilla, and salt, and combine. Put in the cereal and mix until evenly coated. Portion 1/4 cup of the rice krispie mixture into 16 muffin cups.
  • Step 2. Use a 1 Tbsp measuring spoon to press the middle of the mixture down to make the nest shape. Let the cereal mixture sit in the pan for 1 hour before placing it on a board or platter. In a large Ziplock bag, add the coconut with 3-4 drops of food coloring and shake to combine until evenly coated.
  • Step 3. Put 1 Tbsp of the shredded coconut into the middle of the cereal cups and top with three mini eggs. Enjoy!

Tips & Tricks

  • Store any leftovers in a single layer in an airtight container. You can keep these stored at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Undecorated treats can be stored in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 1 month. Let the treats thaw before decorating.
  • Use spray oil to coat the spoon, measuring cup, measuring spoon, and more to keep the tools from sticking.
  • Make sure to buy a fresh box of cereal and marshmallows so the treats aren’t stale when you make them.
  • If you are using salted butter, don’t use additional salt.
