This Avocado Salad recipe is fresh, simple, and flavorful. It’s the perfect side dish with rich and creamy avocado, crisp cucumber and tomatoes covered in a delicious dressing.

Tomato Cucumber Avocado Salad
Tomato Avocado Salad is one of my favorite, easy salad recipes. It has balanced textures and flavors, making it a yummy side dish that’s perfect for Summer. If you have picky eaters at home, I promise they will like this, too. I’ve made this for my kids many times and they love it almost more than I do. I love how it brightens up a rich BBQ dish. It’s a great side salad to lift any heavy meal. Plus, it’s quick to throw together. I make it on demand often and it isn’t time-consuming.
Why You’ll Love This Avocado Salad
- Easy to make. Dice and toss the ingredients together. It’s that simple!
- Fresh taste. This recipe is made with super fresh ingredients.
- Crowd favorite. Not only is this great as a dinner side, but if you take it to a gathering, you won’t have any to take home.
What You’ll Need To Make This Easy Avocado Salad
The majority of the ingredients needed for this avocado salad recipe are fresh produce. I recommend purchasing avocado salad ingredients within a day or two of making the salad.
- Avocados: Perfectly ripe avocados make the best avocado salad.
- Cucumber slices: I like to use slices of English cucumber for this recipe. They are sweeter than standard cucumbers so there is no need to peel the bitter skin of the cucumber and have fewer seeds. An American cucumber will still work!
- Tomatoes: I use halved grape or cherry tomatoes. Roma tomatoes are great as well.
- Red onion: Fresh red onion adds texture and sweetness. If you don’t like onions, try onion powder instead.
- Lemon juice: The acidity of the lemon juice balances the flavors and helps keep the avocado green longer. Lime juice is wonderful, too.
- Olive oil: Any good quality extra virgin olive oil is perfect. Avocado and grapeseed are my go-tos if I don’t have olive oil on hand.
- Cilantro: The freshness of chopped cilantro takes this avocado and cucumber salad to the next level. Leave it out if you’re not a fan.
- Spices: I season this salad with salt and pepper to taste. I like to keep it simple and fresh!
How to Make Avocado Salad
It’s easier than ever to make tasty food. Combine all of the ingredients in this salad and it’s ready to devour!
- Dice the produce. Dice the avocado, cucumber, tomato, and onion. Then, add it to a large serving bowl.
- Add remaining ingredients. Chop the cilantro and it and the rest of the ingredients in the bowl.
- Toss to coat. Stir it all together to gently coat the veggies.
- Serve. Enjoy it as a side dish or a delicious lunch!
Serving Suggestions
When I think of this avocado salad, I immediately think of BBQ. Chicken Skewers, Carne Asada, and Cherry Dr. Pepper Ribs are great grilled proteins to pair with them.
Tips and Variations for Success
-
- Use Avocado salad dressing. Substitute the fresh avocado and drizzle with your favorite avocado dressing or make Avocado Crema.
-
- Storage. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. I recommend not adding the avocado until ready to serve because it will only last about 24 hours.
-
- Don’t use overripe avocados. Soft yet slightly firm avocados are perfect for this recipe. Otherwise, they will be too mushy.

Notes
- Choose avocados that are just ripe, but still relatively firm. If they are too ripe, it’ll be tasty, but the avocado will be mushy.
- Instead of grape or cherry tomatoes you can use 3-4 Roma tomatoes.
- You can omit the onion if you prefer and add ½ Tablespoon of onion powder instead.

I also added marinated artichoke hearts to my avocado salad. This is the best salad ever. And no lettuce; no pasta; no mayonnaise.
Thanks Nancy!
